Isaiah Denounces Proud Shebna and Invests Eliakim with the Key of David

The prophet Isaiah confronts Shebna the royal steward for his self-exalting pride in hewing an opulent sepulchre high in the rock of Jerusalem, declaring that the LORD will violently roll him like a ball into a broad land; the LORD announces that He will clothe His faithful servant Eliakim son of Hilkiah with Shebna’s robe and girdle, placing upon his shoulder the key of the house of David so that what he opens none shall shut, and what he shuts none shall open.
