Following the tragic death of Uzzah at the threshing floor of Nacon (Perez-uzzah), David is afraid to bring the Ark of the LORD directly into Jerusalem; he diverts it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite, where it remains for three months; during this time the LORD blesses Obed-edom, his family, and all that he owns, encouraging David to resume the procession to Mount Zion with gladness and thanksgiving.
