King Joram of Israel, King Jehoshaphat of Judah, and the King of Edom march seven days through the wilderness of Edom to suppress Mesha king of Moab’s rebellion; dying of thirst, they consult Elisha, who commands trenches to be dug and prophesies that water will fill the valley without wind or rain; the allied armies rout Moab and besiege the mountain stronghold of Kir-hareseth with slingers, until King Mesha takes his eldest son and offers him as a burnt offering upon the wall, causing great indignation and the allies’ withdrawal.
