Genesis 12:1 to 12:9 Following God means trusting him step by step, even when we do not know the whole road. Learn that God called Abraham to leave his home and go to a new land. Understand that Abraham obeyed God by faith. Practice trusting God when facing new or unfamiliar situations. Abraham lived in a busy city called Haran. One day, God spoke directly to him with a grand promise: to make his family into a great nation and bless all families on earth. A Special Voice and a Big Journey One day, God spoke to Abraham: "Leave your country, your relatives, and your father's home, and go to the land I will show you." God did not give Abraham a map or tell him the city name. God simply said: "Follow me, and I will lead you." The Great Promise God gave Abraham a wonderful promise: "I will make your name great. I will bless you, and through you, all the families of the earth will be blessed!" Abraham knew that God is good and that God's promises never fail. Packing the Tents Did Abraham say, "I am too comfortable to leave"? No! Abraham, his wife Sarah, his nephew Lot, and their helpers packed up their tents, camels, and sheep. They began walking, trusting God step by step. When they arrived in the land of Canaan, Abraham built an altar to praise God. By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out. Hebrews 11:8 What did God tell Abraham to do? Leave his country and go to a land God would show him Stay home and do nothing Build a wooden ark Move to the moon Leave his country and go to a land God would show him God called Abraham to leave Haran and journey to the land of promise. Who went on the journey with Abraham? His wife Sarah and his family Only his camels Nobody at all The king of Egypt His wife Sarah and his family Abraham traveled with his wife Sarah, nephew Lot, and their household. Why did Abraham obey God? Because he trusted God by faith Because he was bored Because he had a GPS map Because someone forced him Because he trusted God by faith Hebrews 11:8 tells us that by faith Abraham obeyed when he was called. When you feel nervous about something new this week (like a new class, chore, or place), say a little prayer: "Jesus, I trust you to lead my steps." Dear God, thank you for Abraham's faith. Sometimes it is scary to try something new, but I know you are always with me. Help me to trust your voice and follow you wherever you lead. In Jesus' name, Amen.
