Three thousand men of Judah come down to the cleft of the rock of Etam to bind Samson with two new ropes and surrender him to the Philistines; as he reaches Lehi, the Philistines shout against him, but the Spirit of the LORD rushes upon him, melting the ropes from his arms; seizing a fresh jawbone of a donkey, Samson strikes down a thousand warriors, names the place Ramath-lehi ("jawbone height"), and drinks from the miraculous spring En-hakkore which God cleaves open in the rock.
Date: c. 1080 BC · Note: Samson’s single greatest battlefield exploit in defense of southwestern Israel.
