After King Joram (Jehoram) of Judah murders his royal brothers and establishes Baal high places under the influence of his wife Athaliah, a written letter from the prophet Elijah arrives warning that the LORD will strike his family, people, and possessions with a great plague, and that Joram himself will suffer a fatal bowel disease; Philistines and Arabs plunder his house and capture his sons, and Joram dies in intense agony, unlamented by his people.
Date: c. 848 BC · Note: Foretold by a posthumous or written letter sent by Elijah to the king of Judah.
